Vinyl Window Replacement Cost: Per Window and Whole House
What vinyl replacement windows cost per window and per house in four cost surveys and Cost vs. Value, what moves the price, and what vinyl does and does not do.
A vinyl replacement window typically costs several hundred dollars installed, with the high end of one survey's range at $1,500 2. Fixr reports $350 to $800 per vinyl window (updated January 21, 2026) 1. HomeGuide reports $200 to $1,500 per vinyl window installed in its table, and $350 to $1,500 including labor in its text (February 5, 2026) 2. HomeAdvisor reports $100 to $900 for the vinyl window unit alone, before installation (updated June 17, 2026) 3. Angi lists the same $100 to $900 per vinyl window without saying whether installation is included (updated October 15, 2026) 4.
For a whole house of vinyl windows, the 2025 Cost vs. Value report prices a defined ten-window vinyl job at $22,073 nationally 56, and the surveys' count tables run lower for basic units. The sections below show why, and what moves a vinyl quote up or down. For every frame material and cost driver, see the window replacement cost guide.
Vinyl prices by source
| Source (date) | What the figure covers | Vinyl figure |
|---|---|---|
| Fixr (January 21, 2026) | Per window, installed | $350 to $800 1 |
| HomeGuide (February 5, 2026) | Per window, installed | $200 to $1,500 (table) 2 |
| HomeAdvisor (June 17, 2026) | Per window unit, before labor | $100 to $900 3 |
| Angi (October 15, 2026) | Per window, installation not stated | $100 to $900 4 |
| Cost vs. Value 2025 (national) | Ten specified windows, installed | $22,073 per job 5 |
The HomeAdvisor figure does not include installation. HomeAdvisor reports labor at $100 to $300 per window for retrofit work and $150 to $800 for full-frame 3, so an installed price adds one of those ranges to the unit price.
The whole-house vinyl figure
The Cost vs. Value job is ten 3-by-5-foot double-hung windows replaced with insulated, low-E, simulated-divided-light vinyl windows with a custom-color exterior finish, exterior trim matched and interior trim left in place 6. Its job cost comes from a price index built on Bureau of Labor Statistics and Bureau of Economic Analysis data and installer wages, adjusted with local building cost data from Verisk's XactRemodel tool 7.
For comparison, HomeGuide's count table, which assumes single-hung windows in basic aluminum or vinyl frames, reports $4,500 to $15,000 for 10 windows 2. The gap between the two is mostly specification: a custom exterior color and simulated divided lights are options that a basic white vinyl window does not have. What moves a vinyl window's price
Product series
HomeGuide says most window brands offer several product lines or series to suit different budgets 2. HomeAdvisor says a higher-end brand might charge $1,200 for a standard window where a budget brand charges $300 3.
Glass package
DOE's consumer guide describes efficient windows as having double or triple panes with an inert gas such as argon between them, low-E coatings, and spacers that keep the panes apart and help prevent condensation 8. On price, Fixr reports $450 to $2,000 for a double-pane window and $1,000 to $4,000 for triple-pane, across materials, and says tempered or laminated glass upgrades can add $100 to $800 per window 1.
Size and type
Larger and operable windows cost more than small fixed ones. HomeAdvisor's materials-only ranges by window type run from $100 to $400 for single-hung to $150 to $650 for double-hung 3. See double-hung window cost.
Installation method
An insert (retrofit) window fits into the existing frame; a full-frame replacement removes it. Angi reports $100 to $300 per window for retrofit and $180 to $1,500 for full-frame 4. An insert only works when the existing frame is sound 34. See full-frame vs insert replacement.
What vinyl does and does not do
The surveys agree on the general trade-offs, which are directional rather than measured:
- Cost. Vinyl is among the lower-priced frame materials. Fixr calls it the standard frame material, balancing upfront cost, durability and insulation 1.
- Upkeep. Angi describes vinyl as low-maintenance, and HomeAdvisor says it typically does not need many repairs 34.
- Insulation. HomeAdvisor says vinyl insulates better than aluminum but is less energy-efficient than fiberglass 3. How well any window insulates depends heavily on its glass and its rated U-factor, which DOE's guide explains: lower is better, and for windows it generally ranges from 0.20 to 1.20 8.
- Heat. Angi notes that lower-end vinyl can warp in extreme heat 4.
- Other materials. Compare materials in the frame materials comparison and vinyl vs fiberglass windows.
Comparing vinyl quotes
Two vinyl quotes can differ for good reasons. Ask each company for the product series, the glass package with its U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient, the installation method, and whether removal and disposal are included. Then ask the questions that are about the company: Is the installer licensed in your state? What does the labor warranty cover? Our guide on how to choose a window installer goes through the rest. You can compare quotes from window installers once you know your window count.
